chronic hunger

Pray the News – June 4th, 2023

In the world today, a staggering 655 million people in 89 countries are chronically hungry, meaning that they are not able to meet food consumption requirements in the long-term. The causes of chronic hunger are considerable and complicated: poverty, food shortages, war & conflict, climate change, poor nutrition, poor public policy, poor economy, food waste, gender inequality, and forced migration. These problems loom large but God cares about each individual. The God whom we serve is the Lord of Lords, the King of Kings, the one who can fully satisfy every need according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19). Let’s turn our hearts and minds to Christ and cry out together for all who are hungry:

Lord Jesus, we pray for an end to world hunger. May each chronically hungry body be filled with the nutrients that they need to be able to flourish and to fulfill your highest and best purposes for their lives.

Almighty God, we pray that you would, according to your word, maintain the rights of the poor and powerless, the maligned and marginalized, the voiceless and victimized, the desperate and displaced. We pray that you would give justice to each one.

Holy Spirit, we ask you to raise up and send out many people who are willing to roll up their sleeves to work and to pray for your righteousness and justice on behalf of all who are hungry. Here we are, send us, oh God!

We ask all these things in the precious name of Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen.
