Here Comes One More Vicissitude (thank you, Bob Seger!)

Vicissitude (noun): a change of circumstances or fortune, typically one that is unwelcome or unpleasant. When vicissitudes come our way, we have a choice in how we view it and how we respond. We need a new perspective, a new view, so that we don’t get weighed down by yet another crisis (there seem to be many this year, in particular). James 4:7-8 wisely encourages us, “So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come close to God, and God will come close to you.” Thank you, Bob Seger, for your great music! May God bless you, protect you, and give you peace!

Music: “Night Moves” (Bob Seger)

Words by me: When 2020 started, could’ve lost a few pounds – made plans – they got confounded. Then all of a sudden COVID-19 came with plans all its own, spreading far and wide, way out far and wide. That news was bad, yeah, it was really heavy – recessions, protests, locusts broke all levees – more and more mysteries with not many clues. There’ll always be vicissitudes – a big word meaning ups and downs ensue. Here comes one more vicissitude, another crisis. Ooh! We’ll take it all in our stride. We aren’t bored now, oh no, far from it. We aren’t searching for more obstacles to summit. We were once young and restless and bored, but not anymore. We think of the good old days every chance we can when life seemed normal and safer and good. I pray we’ll change with all we’ve gone through, start getting a clue. There’ll always be vicissitudes – a big word meaning ups and downs ensue. Here comes one more vicissitude. Ooh, another crisis. Ooh, we’ll take it all in our, in our stride. And, oh, the wonder! We see the lightning. Yeah, and we wait here for the thunder. We wait here for the thunder. We’ll wake one day to the sound of thunder. “How far off?” we sit and wonder. We start counting off, to guess what else could ensue. Ain’t it funny how perspectives move when we realize all that we have to lose? Strange how our view moves with problems closing in. Mmmm, vicissitudes! Mmmm, such moods. Yeah, remember, sure do remember those up and down moods. Ain’t it funny how we remember? Funny how we remember, we remember, we remember, we remember, we remember! Oh!
