International Women’s Day

Happy International Women’s Day (celebrated around the world since 1911)!

We began participating in this celebration each March 8th when we lived in Russia, one of the many countries in which this is officially celebrated. Our church honored each woman with blessings and flowers. There is still much inequality and gender bias in the world. None of us can fix it completely, but we can each call it out when we notice it, and do whatever we can in that particular situation to effect change. No one deserves to be treated as “less than.”

Genesis 1:27 (NRSV) – “God created humankind in his image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.”

Galatians 3:28 (NRSV) – “There is no longer Jew or Greek, there is no longer slave or free, there is no longer male and female; for all of you are one in Christ Jesus.”
