Not Leaving on a Jet Plane (thank you, John Denver!)

I have lived almost all of my life across the seas from loved ones. The first time I crossed the ocean was in a ship, but ever since that first journey, jet planes have been a lifeline connecting me with loved ones in my life. We greatly miss our loved ones across the seas whom we cannot visit in the foreseeable future during this global pandemic. Our hearts are sad about that, but we await eagerly the day when that possibility opens up again. My heart goes out to all who are separated from loved ones across the seas. It’s ok to cry, ok to be sad about this, but we can also encourage one another to wait patiently and hopefully until the day comes when the opportunity to visit arises again. Thank you, John Denver, for your great music. May God bless you, protect you, and give you peace!

Music: “Leaving on a jet plane” (John Denver)

Words by me: All our bags are packed – we’re ready to go. We’ve got our passports in our hand, but there are no flights going to your land. But the dawn is breaking. It’s early morn. We know you’re waiting. Our hearts are torn. Already we’ve been parted all this year. So, let’s have another video call. Our hearts are big, our faces small. We guess we cannot visit after all. ‘Cause we’re not leavin’ on a jet plane. Don’t know when we can fly again. It’s too bad, we just can’t go. There’s so many times good fares we found. So many times our plans were grounded. We tell you now, they don’t mean a thing. Every flight we check, we think of you. Every cancelled plan, we remember you. When we someday get there, we’ll have a song to sing! So, let’s have another video call. Our hearts are big; our faces small. We guess we cannot visit after all. ‘Cause we’re not leavin’ on a jet plane. Don’t know when we can fly again. It’s too bad, we just can’t go. Now the time has come to try this. One more time, let me text you, then video chat, and we’ll check for flights again. Dream about travels to come when airports open up again across the seas – we just cannot say. Let’s have another video call. Our hearts are big; our faces small. We guess we cannot visit after all. ‘Cause we’re not leavin’ on a jet plane. Don’t know when we can fly again. It’s too bad, we just can’t go. x 2
