PES-KES News 2001 (December)

“For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” 2 Corinthians 4:17-18

Hi everyone!

Firstly, I’m sorry we’ve been a bit reclusive on the communication front lately! A few slight changes around here 🙂 Of course the biggest of these is the addition of our precious daughters, Karis Maria Peace and Esther Ana Joy, who joined us in April from Bucharest, Romania. We are so grateful that they are forever a part of our family. Besides being the cutest little curly-girls you’ve ever seen, they are each personality plus and keep us on our toes. This year has been probably the most difficult one of our lives, though. We’re still in the thick of it—dealing with some pretty major attachment issues, but we’re hanging in there, holding onto the promises of God just like in any other circumstances.

While I was pining away for Karis & Esther between visits to Romania (Jan & Apr), I launched our family’s web site (cheap therapy and not as fattening as chocolate!). The main purpose of it is to keep family and friends up to date with what’s going on in our lives (Sculley Academy, activities, interests), and also to encourage others in adoption or homeschooling. If you know of anyone who is pursuing either of these, by all means pass on the web address to them. We have our adoption story and post-adoption updates on there, too, so check it out when you get a chance.

Sculley Family 2001 Seven Days of Creation:
Day 1—light . . . God must have had Esther (22 months) in mind—her sweet smile and “hi!” lights up our lives.
Day 2—sky . . . Peter (10) is a dreamer, and loves to gaze at the sky—we call him our “absent-minded professor.”
Day 3—plants . . . Karis (22 months) loves to be in the great outdoors, running through the grass, climbing everything in sight.
Day 4—sun, moon & stars . . . Jonathan (almost 8) is fascinated with outer space and wants to go to space camp some day.
Day 5—birds & fish . . . When Cascade (4-1/2) dances, she glides through the air, and when she swims, she is like a fish in water.
Day 6—animals & man—Michael (6-1/2) is our #1 animal lover, whose constant companions are his Russian tiger, monkey, killer whale pillow, and animal books.
Day 7—God rested . . . Paul & Karen (young :)) are so thankful for the six special creations God has given us, and especially that God gave us a day of REST!!!!

As you know, Paul and I are total geek-heads, as are our older children, so if you want to keep in touch often, email is the best way (sorry to those of you who prefer snail mail—we are past the point of thinking we’ll do real letters very often any time soon). We look forward to hearing from you soon.

We pray that the recent tragic events in our world will cause you to turn your hearts towards God and receive all that he has for you. May his most awesome blessings be poured out on you and your family in 2002!

Lots of love,
Paul, Karen, Peter, Jonathan, Michael, Cascade, Karis, Esther
