Rube Goldberg Machines (thank you, Avril Lavigne!)

Rube Goldberg machines are so enjoyable to watch – accomplishing a simple task in extraordinarily complicated ways. Sometimes life is very complicated, too. I hope this relieves some stress and brings you joy today! This song is dedicated to my favorite engineers (some of whom built Rube Goldberg machines in engineering competitions) – Peter, Jonathan, Cascade, and Aditi. Thank you, Avril Lavigne, for your great music! May God bless you, protect you, and give you peace!
Music: “Complicated” (Avril Lavigne)
Words by me: Uh huh, life’s like this. Uh huh, uh huh, that’s the way it is ’cause life’s like this. Uh huh, uh huh, that’s the way it is. Chill out when it’s confusing. Lay back, if it’s perplexing. And if it’s made convolutedly, you will see. Troublesome, difficult to get, entangled, interlaced, and yet, it’s like a puzzle with no edge, a problematic wedge. Some people make things so labyrinthine or so complex, they’re quite byzantine, abstruse, intricate – we’re craning our necks to see. Rube Goldberg machines make simple tasks complicated – intentionally made with a series of devices that are unrelated set in motion – things fall, and they crawl, and they break, and they move right along till they reach and achieve a stated goal – designs that could never be actuated. No, no, no. A chain reaction starts it off, setting a trigger (please don’t scoff), initiating the next event in a long series. Engineers make these just for fun to get a mundane project done, using their creativity, their ingenuity.
