Unfortunately there are people out there who try to thieve, swindle, trick, hustle, pull a fast one, scam, con, diddle, deceive, flimflam, rip off, or smooth talk you for the purpose of violating your trust and stealing your money and / or your ID. The FTC say that about 2% of adults report some kind of fraud each year (more are unreported), primarily in the areas of imposter scams, debt collection, and identity theft.
