What is prayer?

This is an alliterative reflection I wrote in order to invite us all to consider aspect of prayer that Christ is inviting us to embrace or walk in more fully:

Is prayer an activity? an attitude?

Is prayer asking? abiding?

Is prayer alone? all together?

Is prayer accurate (mind)? aching (heart)?

Is prayer an arrow (targeted)? all around (scattered)?

Is prayer all of the above?

One of my favorite simple definitions of prayer is that prayer is “the conversational part of the most important love relationship in our lives, our love relationship with the Father, Son and Holy Spirit” (Alvin VanderGriend). Here are some classic prayers of the church I’ve recorded:
