Don’t Lie, Just Tell the Truth (thank you, Hall & Oates / Jordan Peterson!)

There are all kinds of reasons why people lie, but whatever the motivation, lying leads us away from the light and drags us deeper into the darkness. I hope this wisdom from Jordan Peterson helps us to be more aware of the temptations we all face to tell lies, to resist those temptations, and to have the courage to choose to tell the truth, even when it’s uncomfortable or even incredibly difficult. It’s when we choose to live in the light that we experience greater freedom and fullness of life. Thank you, Hall & Oates, for your great music! May God bless you, protect you, and give you peace!

Music: “You Make My Dreams Come True” (Hall & Oates)

Words by me: Day to day, we might tell lies to get what we want, avoid pain, appear competent, so that they will like us more (yeah, yeah). Day to day, we might mislead to gain some status and to run away from conflict, and manipulate the world (oh yeah). Well, well, you – don’t lie, just tell the truth! Well, well, well, you (oh yeah) – don’t lie, just tell the truth! Figure out what’s really true and why it matters. Aim for competence and character, not for status or for power. Anything you know is wrong, don’t say or do it. Stand for truth, don’t be a coward. Be willing just to learn (oh yeah). Well, well you – don’t lie, just tell the truth! Well, well, well, you – don’t lie, just tell the truth! Oh, listen to this! Shine light in the darkness. Live and speak the truth, walk with God in the world, just go. Yes, you – don’t lie, just tell the truth! Yes, you and me, you and me, too (oh yeah) – don’t lie, just tell the truth!
