Pause to Pet a Cat (thank you, Panic! At the Disco / Jordan Peterson!)

This song is inspired by Jordan Peterson’s rule “Pet a cat when you encounter one on the street.” Petting a cat (or dog) can be a soothing touchpoint amidst the inevitable suffering and unexplainable tragedies of life. We can choose to notice that which is good in the world around us, instead of focusing on the bad things which often threaten to overwhelm us. In paying attention to that which is good and beautiful along our way, we will in a small way do our part to make the world a better place! Thank you, Panic! At the Disco, for your great music! May God bless you, protect you, and give you peace!

Music: “Death of a Bachelor” (Panic! At the Disco)

Words by me: Even on bad days, we each have opportunities. Life includes suffering – damage, loss, aging. Maybe we’re broken, maybe we’re struggling. Each day is a quest to see how much we’re blessed. Take care, can you see it, too? The wonder of being can outweigh suffering, if we notice the joys, small enjoyable things around us all. Pause to pet a cat when you encounter one on the street. Pause to pet a cat – it’s a hiatus from the pain. Whatever happens after good days or bad galore, a lifetime of wonder gives you a break, extra light for your path today. Don’t turn your mind off. Let your heart grow and even burst. Be there and be present today and in the present moment. And as you live your life, let the joy interrupt the pain. Share what you have freely, your giving will not be in vain.
