Pray for the nations

Examples of prayers from this online prayer guide:

April 23 – Pray for: Australia – Australia’s precarious environment is overexploited, in urban settings as much as in rural ones. Oceania’s ecology is possibly the most fragile of any continent, and with the years-long drought and increasing use of land and water, serious ramifications for the future must be addressed. The devastating fires of 2019-2020 are a tragic example of this truth. Questions persist as to whether the government does enough to address the need for better stewardship of the land, for clean energy, and regarding their efforts to prevent, mitigate, and combat bushfires. These failures have resulted not only in staggering environmental destruction, but in simmering resentment that has boiled over into outright anger on the part of the population. It may be too late to save much of Australia’s land. May repentance for careless consumption, rapacious industry, and exploitative lifestyles bring about true change and lasting healing – for the land, and in peoples’ hearts. May the people of God passionately pursue His mandate of being good stewards of Creation.

October 12 – Pray for: Russia – Millions struggle against poverty and hopelessness. Russia has one of the world’s most elderly populations, along with low immigration numbers. Russia’s population drops by over 500,000 each year, and its birth rate is among the world’s lowest. At the same time, Russia’s abortion rate is one of the world’s highest. Alcoholism, drug addiction, suicide, and family breakdown ruin many lives. Health care costs are too high for many to afford, and few have access to it. Russia has Europe’s highest and fastest-rising rate of HIV/AIDS, which affects young people more than others. These struggles rob the country of its future.

December 9 – Pray for: United States of America – America has a massive cultural and social influence. No other country has as much potential to be a redemptive force in the world, and no other country does more to spread sin. America has made the world a better place through aid and development, innovation in technology and media, universal education, information, defence of human rights, and opposition to tyranny. America has also hurt the world through insensitive cultural domination, selfish individualism, corporate greed, and spreading of pornography, casual violence, and obsession with possessions, wealth, and poverty. America’s desire for illicit drugs and fossil fuels causes wars abroad, keeps corrupt regimes in power, and inflicts suffering on indigenous peoples of other lands. Pray that God might shape this nation to be a greater force for good, and destroy these sinful practices that pollute much of the world.
