Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving
We have very eclectic traditions at Thanksgiving that blend eclectic food, thankfulness, Scriptures, history, remembering the poor, praying a personal blessing over each person present, and having fun together. We only rarely consume turkey for Thanksgiving, but we do enjoy a good meal together, so anything is possible! We tend to have an assortment of dishes as everyone contributes what they would like to make (scroll down for menus). We recently started a Thanksgiving journal in which each person present writes an entry. We look forward to adding to that each year. In 2018, after agreeing that we are most thankful to God for one another, we shared an experience we were thankful for in the past year and an opportunity to help someone else in the last year for which we are thankful. Scroll down for other samples of Scriptures, activities, and other documents. A fun tradition we have closed with some years has been our “Sculley Family music / art / drama [MAD] competition”.

Sculley Family music / art / drama [MAD] competition
2017 winners were the Music team (Paul, Cascade, Diego, Ian), who brought their musical stylings to a poem about Shells from “Poetry for the Soul” – Cascade played the ukelele, Diego played the pan pipes, Ian played the drum, and Paul gave an occasional choo-choo on the train whistle. Very entertaining!
2016: we didn’t do this (inexplicably!)
2015 winners were the Art team (Peter, Cascade, Esther), who recreated “The Emperor Napoleon in His Study at the Tuileries” by Jacques-Louis David, using fingerpaints! Beautiful!
